SumterHighClassOf1983.org was created by classmates of Sumter High School Class of 1983 to serve our class by providing a place where we can come together as a class to reconnect with old friends and classmates while maybe even making new friends of old classmates that we may not have had the opportunity to before.
Our school was located at several campuses, McLauren Junior High School, Council Street Junior High School, and Haynesworth High School for our four years of high school. The new high school, which is our current alma mater, was not opened until after we graduated. However, we are still proud to be graduates of Sumter High School no matter what building she calls home. We are a diversified class with many wonderful personalities and talents among our members.
Sumter High School is located in the heart of Gamecock country, which is why the Gamecock is our mascot as well as the mascot of the state university. Our colors differ from the university's colors though. Our colors are blue and gold while theirs are black and burgundy. We are still the Mighty Fighting Gamecocks and always will be at heart. High School is a time when we as individuals develop our character as a person with the good and bad experiences high school can bring. Therefore, we should all be proud of who we are and know that our experiences in Sumter High helped to make us into the fine and wonderful people we are today.
This website is created to provide a place where we can come together to remember those experiences, the good and bad, to laugh together at our own awkwardness as we found out who we were together, and reconnect with long lost friends. Remember, there is no other group of people on this earth, next to family, who experienced that journey for so many years with us, like our classmates. Our classmates and teachers actually spent more hours each day with us than our families. When you think of it that way, these are people we will have a connection with for the rest of our lives...lets make the most of that connection and enjoy the rest of this journey called life together.
